Leader of the All People’s Congress(APC) Dr Hassan Ayariga has said his party will not join the NDC-led unlawful demonstration set to be embarked upon by opposition parties today in Accra.

“I wish to disassociate myself and the APC from the reckless demonstration the NDC is scheduled to embark tomorrow. The demonstration is against the public order act, as the police has not been duly notified, the APC and myself cannot be part of the process,” Hassan Ayariga indicated in a Press Statement on Friday.

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) is rallying its supporters and other opposition parties to converge at the Obra Spot at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra to demonstrate against the dismissal of the boss of the Electoral Commission and her two deputies.

President Nana Akufo-Addo sacked the Chairperson of the Electoral Management Body Charlotte Osei and her two deputies – Amadu Sulley and Georgina Opoku Amankwah – over acts of “misbehavior and incompetence.”

But the APC in its statement contends that the move by the President in removing the EC Boss is in order insisting the “arrogance and abuse of office by Madam Charlotte Osei left no one in doubt that she was a danger to the EC and the country.”

The statement further commended the President for acting boldly on this matter.

Press Release.

I wish to disassociate myself and the APC from the reckless demonstration the NDC is scheduled to embark tomorrow. The demonstration is against the public order act, as the police has not been duly notified, the APC and myself cannot be part of the process.

On the substantive issue of the removal of the Madam Charlotte Osei, the APC wish to commend the Chief Justice and her committee for confirming what we have always said about Madam Charlotte Osei. We wish to commend the President for acting boldly on this matter.

The arrogance and abuse of office by Madam Charlotte Osei left no one in doubt that she was a danger to the EC and the country. In the 2016 election, the hostility she showed towards the APC and its leader and her utterances gave her out as an unfair commissioner.

I urged the people of Ghana to embrace this decision and see it as an opportunity to reform the EC.

Dr Hassan Ayariga
APC Founder and Leader.
