Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) chairman, Peter Mac Manu says the rank and file of the NPP must learn to bury their differences for the supreme interest of the party.

He thus wants the party leadership to ‘exhibit goodwill’ at their level, which he said is the only way to enable them forge ahead in the execution of the activities of the party.

The NPP has for some months now been the center of controversy among all the political parties in the country as a result of what is turning out to be mistrust among its national executives.

However, in an interview with Fiifi Banson on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.3 FM Monday, Mr Mac Manu says what could  perhaps stop the tension in the NPP is for them to ‘put aside personal differences for the greater good of the party.’

He explained that part of the internal bickering within the Dankwa-Busia-Dombo tradition emerged as a result of the grey area in the NPP’s constitution regarding the specific roles discharged by the Presidential candidate and the chairman of the party.

“There is a lacuna in the NPP constitution about party leader, chairmanship role and others. I know our main opponents, the NDC had a similar problem in 2010 and they’ve amended their constitution and now the flagbearer is the leader and convener of meetings; we don’t have that yet. And so now it’s only the goodwill which should exist between the people for things to flow.”

“Everybody knows that the Presidential candidate is the leader of the party, but in the constitution it’s not like that. The framers of the constitution, B.J Da Rocha and the rest, they never anticipated that there will be a time a chairman of the party and the flagbearer will be so poles apart that they cannot merge and forge a unified front,” he stressed.

However, he believes that the NPP will surmount the challenges and come out a more formidable force to wrestle power from the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).
