Eastern Regional Chair, Tawiah Boateng

The Eastern Regional Branch of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has said the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP)’s hope of securing seventy percent (70%) of votes in the Eastern Region during the upcoming 2016 elections is a mirage.

According to the NDC Regional Chairman, Bismark Tawiah Boateng, the NPP must be daydreaming to think of winning such huge votes in the Eastern region, where the party’s votes have in recent elections consistently dwindled.

The NPP Presidential Candidate, Nana Akufo Addo during his tour of the Eastern Region yesterday, stated that the largest opposition party is poised to ensure an improvement in its electoral fortunes by garnering 70% of the votes.

He thus tasked the rank and file of the party to gird their loins for the uphill task, in the election that promises to be keenly contested especially among the two leading parties, NPP and NDC.

However speaking on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa FM with Fiifi Banson, Mr Tawiah Boateng urged the NPP not to expend its resources and energies in striving to achieve its target since it is practically impossible.

“Nana Addo is saying our Agenda 50/50 which is aimed at sharing the total votes cast in 2016 election in Eastern region equally with the NPP is unattainable, he doesn’t know what he’s talking about. The NPP rather cannot get 70% of votes in Eastern region.

“We the NDC achieving our target is more realistic than the NPP realizing theirs. Our votes have consistently improved in the Eastern region over the years, while the NPP’s votes go down. Even during occasions where the NPP’s flag bearer hails from the Eastern region like in 1992 when Prof. Adu Boahene led NPP and in 2008/2012 when Akufo Addo led the Party, the NDC still made a good showing at the polls. The NPP cannot claim the region is one of its two strongholds. We remain committed to ensuring victory for the NDC come 2016.
