An anti-corruption crusader, Vitus Azeem is of the view the Commission for Human Right and Administrative Justice (CHRAG) or Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) should have been asked to conduct investigation into the alleged spending of GHc140k on food by Ghana Maritime Authority.
Although he welcomes the directive by the Transport Minister to have the Board of the Ghana Maritime Authority to investigate claims of financial malfeasance against the CEO of the authority, Mr. Kwame Owusu, he believes CHRAJ or EOCO will do a better job in investigating the case.
“The ideal thing to have done is to ask CHRAJ or some other institution to go there and investigate. Somebody could even report to CHRAJ to go ahead to investigate. EOCO is there, one or two independent member committee could have been asked to investigate because once he is the CEO, he and the board members are like working together so the chances are that we may not be satisfy with the outcome of their investigation” he said on Starr Fm.
The Transport Minister, Kwaku Ofori Asiamah in a two-paragraph release to the media Monday, October 29, indicated that he had charged the Board of Directors of the Authority to investigate the allegations.
“My attention has been drawn to a number of allegations against the Director-General of the Ghana Maritime Authority, Mr. Kwame Owusu, which have gone viral on social media.
“As the sector Minister with oversight responsibility over the Ghana Maritime Authority, I wish to indicate that I have directed the Board of the Authority to investigate the allegations and report to me for necessary action,” the release indicated.
Meanwhile, management of the authority has denied the claims saying the memo that was intercepted by Kasapafmonline.com on November 08, 2018, was doctored.
