The National Youth Organizer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sammy Awuku has decried the police brutality against protesters during today’s demonstration by pressure group Let My Vote Count Alliance.

The NPP youth leader, says what was supposed to be a peaceful march later turned violent due to police mishandling of the crowd, adding it’s regrettable sight for Ghana’s democracy.

“Today I have witnessed the highest form of police brutality on a simple protest that was intended to press home the case for a new voters register,” he told Kasapa 102.3 FM Wednesday.

“I have seen all the police men who were behind all these things. If at some point the rules of engagement have been breached, what is the right thing to do? Is it not the best to engage the organizers and solve it with them? That is not the kind of country we want to see being run.

“It gives us a fair idea as to the modus operandi of this government going into election 2016,” he added.

NPP stalwart Gabby Otchere Darko and LMVCA head David Asante were arrested by the Police for flouting guidelines set for them.
