Popular Lawyer and Lecturer Dr. Maurice Ampaw claims female law students of the Ghana Law School are failing their exams in recent years because Lecturers no longer get the opportunity of having sex with them and giving them pass marks during exams.
According to him, it had been a known practice at the Ghana School of Law that Lecturers had sex with female students in exchange for good grades.
Dr. Maurice Ampaw made the claims while commenting on BBC Africa Eye’s “sex for grades” exposé which captured popular Lecturer of the University of Ghana, Prof. Ransford Gyampo making “numerous inappropriate demands” from an undercover journalist who posed as a student whom he had agreed to mentor.
He said the only way to reduce the phenomenon of ”sex for grade” at the University of Ghana and others is to have an independent examamination body established to set and mark exams papers as has been done at the Ghana School of Law.
“…I know some female students who completed Legon who never went for lectures on a single day but had first class. They offered their bodies to get first class, they are a gang of five ladies. This was the same situation that existed in the Ghana School of Law, where lectures had sex with students and gave them pass marks during examination to the extent that some of the female students petitioned the General Legal Council that they were being harrassed by some of the lecturers. This compeled the General Legal Council to set up an independent body that sets exams and marks the papers. You see, the Lectures are no more in a position to have sex with the students and pass them during exams because that power has been taken from them that’s why we now see the female students failing their exams abysmally. Yes, I’m telling you this is a fact,” Dr. Ampaw told Kasapa FM News Akwasi Nsiah in an interview.
He added: “So the way to go is for an independent body that sets questions and marks them to be established at the University of Ghana and other universities to reduce the “sex for grade” phenomenon.”
