Majority Leader in Parliament, Osei-Kyei Mensah Bonsu has apologized to founding member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Kwame Amoako Tuffour, after the former angrily questioned his[Amoako Tuffuor] relevance both in the party level and government.

Some controversies have emerged between the two following pronouncement by Dr. Amoako Tuffuor over the upcoming primaries vis-à-vis the party’s intention of protecting some very important MPs from being contested.

Majority Leader who was livid at the intervention made by Dr. Amoako Tuffuor over the party’s planned protection of some key MPs in the upcoming race fumed at the party elder for joining the fray in criticizing the party over such moves.

“…He doesn’t have any relevance in this party; i must make bold on this. whenever there is an election then he spirits himself into Ashanti region and pretends that he’s in control over the region. What does he do for the party? What does he do for the government? its only when elections are due whether parliamentary, the DCEs, the Presidential, then he goes there skirmishing around as if he holds the keys to Ashanti region.

“He’s my friend but how he behaves in this party I cannot comprehend. In fact four years ago, he was one person who went to see one lawyer Appiah-Menka, Appino, who was there and said that if there was going to be a contest, I was going to place last so the party should not protect me in any way. What happened in the end? So on the day of my election he came there, and he couldn’t look at me in the face when results were announced. I mean these things, he’s an elderly person and i believe that he should know how to behave in this party; its not right! even if he has any misgivings against what position the party takes, as an elder of the party he should know how to communicate, but to go about challenging position in the party and pretending to be the Alpha and Omega of the party in Ashanti with respect to him, I differ and he should not go on that way.”

The Suame lawmaker in an interview on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.5 FM sought to put at rest the tension between him and the party Elder, while extending an apology that said:”My response was high-pitched, and if i have the same opportunity I obviously wouldn’t go the way i went yesterday.”

He added:” Besides, Dr. Amoako Tuffuor is older than me and in our Akan setting, you can never win a case with an elderly person”.

With regards to the wayforward on the party position, Mr Kyei Mensah-Bonsu asked Dr. Amoako Tuffuor to engage the party in closed doors instead of coming out publicly to express his misgivings about internal party matters.
