The minority in parliament has once again reiterated calls for parliament  to be shutdown.

This follows revelation by majority leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu that some MPs, staff and journalists who tested positive for covid-19 are refusing to stay home.

Speaking to Kasapa News, minority spokesperson on health, Kwabena Mintah Akandor accused the majority leader of denying earlier reports of infections within the legislature just to save EC’s controversial CI for the compilation of a new voters’ register.

“I keep telling you people that this government keeps playing politics with our health. You know why? As at the time the minority Chief Whip stated that we should not cover up, the CI 126 had not matured. So the majority leader was of the opinion that, if it becomes worse, parliament will shutdown and then the CI 126 will not get matured. Now he’s waited until the CI 126 has mature and he’s coming back to tell us that now he’s privy to those who have contracted the virus. I’m ashamed! And for me the speaker must be firm. As a matter of urgency parliament must be closed down with immediate effect.”
