Businessman and Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee of the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations in Ghana, Kofi Amoah, has said the exit of FIFA President, Sepp Blatter, is good for the general wellbeing of African football.

In a statement released Tuesday night, Amoah who guided Ghana to a successful hosting of the tournament seven years ago said:

“I welcome and support the resignation of Mr Blatter.

“And I also believe that the cleansing of African football administration will not be far from now.”

Blatter, who was re-elected over the weekend for a fifth term in an election overshadowed by corruption allegations, has offered to resign.

At an hurriedly arranged press conference Monday evening, he said “My mandate does not appear to be supported by everybody.”

He has subsequently asked the body to call a congress that should lead to his exit.

Below, Amoah’s full statement

I believe that Principles and Morality should continue to guide nations and the global football community towards progress.

No amount of money can replace these because in the end Principles and Morality shall prevail

I welcome and support the resignation of Mr Blatter.

And I also believe that the cleansing of African football administration will not be far from now.

Let Principles and Morality be our guide as well.
