Editor- in-Chief of the New Crusading Guide Newspaper, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako says the suspended National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Paul Afoko and his associates have lost the ‘political war’ following yesterday’s successful National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.

According to him, the beleaguered Afoko currently has no influence and authority over the party as his directive restraining the NEC members from attending a meeting he described as illegal, was blatantly disregarded.

The NPP on Tuesday held its first National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting called by its Acting National Chairman Freddy Blay, after the party suspended its embattled National Chairman Mr Paul Afoko.

Mr. Afoko had earlier issued a statement cautioning members of the executive committee of the party against attending Tuesday’s meeting.

The statement said: “Mr. Afoko wishes to state that he has not called any meeting neither has the General Secretary, Mr. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, issued any notice inviting members to attend any meeting.

However, the contentious meeting had massive turn out, in excess of over 90 party members entitled to attend what is believed to be an illegal meeting, according to the suspended chairman of the NPP.

The party’s flag bear, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his running mate, Mahammudu Bawumia were also in attendance.

Mr Afoko ever since his suspension has repeatedly insisted that he still has a grip over the party.

However speaking on Peace FM Wednesday, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako who last week challenged Mr Afoko to test his authority over the party by calling for a meeting, stated that per the turn of events at yesterday’s NEC meeting, Mr Afoko must know that for now he has no solid standing in the scheme of the party’s affairs.

“Afoko has effectively lost the political war, what is left are the residual legal battles to fight. Assuming in the most unlikely circumstance that he wins those, will he have the moral authority to call meetings and steer the party’s affairs as previously. He has not handled the issues well. In real politics, he is finished, if I were him I would have advised myself. But Afoko is a man of courage, knowing him too well, he’ll fight back.

You don’t go to an EC forum on voters register and despite your suspension, parade yourself as the chairman. You display your EC tag around your neck and tell journalist that you’re still in charge of the NPP. Since when did we determine ones authority over a party with an EC tag?

Such a conduct passes for transient irritation. You won’t put up such a conduct and be able to effectively chair the party” Kweku Baako said.
