The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor has revealed that over 30 million out of the 41 million trees planted since the launch of Green Ghana Day in 2021 till date have survived.
The survival rate contributes to over 73% of the total tree planted since the launch of the initiative.
The minister in a press briefing to announce the 2024 edition of the exercise, said government has shown massive commitment to ensuring that these trees survive to help serve the purpose of being planted.
The Minister revealed that the 4th Edition of the Green Ghana Day is scheduled to take place on Friday, June 7, 2024 and a total of 10 million trees are expected to be planted across the country.
In an effort to combat deforestation and promote environmental sustainability, the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources launched the National Green Ghana Day in 2021 and has planted 41 million trees across the country so far.
The Minister, who doubles as the MP for Damongo Constituency noted that this will help replenish our depleted forest reserves and protect the environment.
Mr Abu Jinapor used the opportunity to commend President Akufo-Addo for this initiative as he says this has helped in dealing with climate change.

He therefore appealed to Ghanaians to ensure that trees that are planted during the green Ghana day are monitored and nurtured to ensure maximum survival rate of the trees.
