One person is dead while seven are severely injured in a fatal crash on Somanya road in the Eastern Region.

The accident occurred around 5:00 pm Tuesday at Akorley community near Somanya.

A Hyundai H100 with registration number GG 4311-15 somersaulted multiple times after hitting a pothole and bursting a tire.

The vehicle ultimately landed in a nearby stream killing one person instantly and left seven others battling for their lives.

The injured victims are currently receiving treatment at the Yilo Krobo District Hospital, while the body of the deceased has been deposited at the morgue.

This incident is the fourth fatal crash in the Somanya area within the last two months, a period marked by multiple accidents that have claimed several lives, including two female teachers from Yilo Krobo Senior High School.

Ghana recorded a total of 4,503 road crashes in the first quarter of this year, resulting in 829 deaths and 4,955 injuries.
