The Minister for Education, Professor Naana Jana Opoku-Agyemang, took time out her busy schedule whilst in Kumasi on a two-day stakeholders meeting, to inspect the on-going construction of Community Day Senior High Schools at Adugyaman and Agric Nzema near Kwadaso last Wednesday.
The two communities are in the Ahafo Ano South District and the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly respectively.
The World Bank sponsored projects, with an estimated cost of$11,295,175.30 and $11244,419.26 respectively has common facilities such as 1 No. each 4-storey E-block, Gate House, 4-Storey Block of Staff Flats, Canteen Block School Head’s Bungalow and Associated Extension Works.
On arrival at the Adugyaman construction site of the school with her entourage, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang was conducted round the project site by the site engineer of Nickseth Construction Company Limited.
According to the contractor, his firm took over the construction work in June 2015 and expressed the hope to complete and hand over the project to the ministry by the end of July.
He disclosed, further that apart from the long distance of haulage of some building materials to the site, they have faced no challenge since, adding that the company’s engagement of the services of more than 500 skilled and unskilled workforce and the provision of a canteen shed on site had made it possible for the construction works to go at a faster pace to meet the date line.
At the Agric Nzema site of the new CDSHS, Prof. Naana Opoku-Agyemang and her entourage were conducted round by the yard foreman, who indicated that more than 40% of work had been completed.
He added that all construction materials were on site and there was nothing impeding the progress of work.
He also assured the minister that, with the about 100 workers on site and working around the clock, they would be able to meet the date line of completion and handing over.
The minister commended the two contractors for the quality and levels of work so far done and encouraged both to continue at the same pace whilst ensuring quality and complete the construction in good time for the commissioning to take place.
Other members of the minister’s entourage were the deputy minister in-charge of pre-tertiary, Hon. Alex Kyeremeh, the Chief Director of the ministry, Mr. Enock Cobbinah, the Director of pre-tertiary education, Madam Rabiana Azara, Mr. Michael Inkoom, Director, Secondary Education as well as some senior staff of the ministry and the GES.
