The new Terminal Three (T3) facility under construction at the Kotoka International Airport(KIA) is to be completed by the end of July 2017, officials say.

Actual execution of the project begun after President John Dramani Mahama alongside his Turkish counterpart HE Recep Tayyip Erdoğan cut-sod for the project Tuesday March 1 at the Kotoka International Airport.

Mahama said the aviation industry could contribute significantly to Ghana’s economic growth through job and wealth creation, adding that Ghana is positioning itself to benefit from the economic boom.

“As per the focus of the international air transport association (IATA), there will be over 6.5 billion air passengers by 2032 and this will generate about 103 million jobs and 5.8 trillion in economic activity. There is no doubt that the strong aviation sector will boost Ghana’s economic potential and will make it more productive, effective and efficient as a result of global competition.”

The ultra-modern terminal three facility to be constructed will consist of five level facilities expanding up to 45,000 square metres of space and a capacity to process 1,250 passengers per hour.

It will have its boarding bridges,  a large retail and commercial area, three business lounges capable of handling 5 million air passengers a year.
