The Editor-in-Chief of the new Crusading Guide, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako Jnr has described as a “Voodoo Figure” the Electoral Commission’s(EC) full compilation of list of all persons who registered using the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) card, as proof of Ghanaian citizenship ahead of the 2012 elections.

“I don’t believe it. We need an independent body to cross-check this whole thing again” Baako said in a submission on Joy FM’s News File Saturday.

The Electoral Commission as ordered by the apex court submitted 56,000 names as the full list of Ghanaians who were captured onto the voters’ register, using the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) card, as proof of Ghanaian citizenship ahead of the 2012 elections.

The figure was released at sitting Thursday to the Supreme Court, which ordered the Commission to produce the list in six days.

Lawwyer for the plaintiff, Frank Davies, told the Supreme Court the fifty six thousand figure presented to it, is contentious and could not be the actual figure since they knew of more people who registered with NHIS card in some areas, but were not captured by the EC.

Subsequent to the objection raised by counsel for the plaintiff, the Chief Justice, asked the plaintiff-Abu Ramadan to furnish the Electoral Commission with its version of the NHIS card users who registered ahead of the 2012 elections,  using the NHIS cards as a proof of identity since they claim the EC’s figure of 56,000 is spurious.

But Mr. Kwaku Baako is urging the court to subject the list produced and submitted to it by the election management body to verification insisting the list is of “doubtful validity”.

“This is an instinctive reaction- I’m sorry I’ve no evidence but something tells me there is something wrong with the list. It shouldn’t have the time and space to put up a comprehensive list; Please go back to the court and say we need time. But this list-56,000 I’m told and with all the discrepancies that have been put out already, I’m beginning to think that we’re in serious trouble.
“Last week I was a bit more optimistic that we are heading to a closure of the matter, but now I’m beginning to fear some road blocks and needless litigation for all you know. there is something basically wrong”.
