The Northern Regional Coordinating Council and the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA) have jointly initiated discussions into finding ways of resettling residents of Old Fadama.
Hundreds of settlers at the slum lost their wares to a major demolition exercise in the capital, Accra recently.
Alhaji Limuna Mohammed-Muniru, the Northern Regional Minister has revealed that the RCC is considering a package that will absorb the returnees in productive ventures to earn them decent livelihoods that would ensure they do not return to Accra in search of non-existent jobs.
The Regional Coordinating Council and SADA will also give them the opportunity to be rolled onto a Youth in Agriculture project, and support them with the necessary facilities to earn a living, the Minister said.
According to him, the RCC in partnership with the Micro and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) will assist others who acquired self-employable skills, such as dressmaking, and carpentry, to set up their own business.
The first batch of returnees were transported to Tamale courtesy the Northern Youth for Peace and Community Development, a non-governmental organisation.
