The 2012 Presidential candidate of the Peoples National Convention (PNC), Hassan Ayariga, has said it makes no sense in contemporary Ghana to keep voting for the two leading political parties, the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), when they have failed to deliver on their mandate.

According to him, ever since the fourth republic took off, both have done little to improve on the living standards of the people despite the numerous natural resources they inherited.

He said what is so common about the two political parties is wealth distribution whenever an election is around and therefore, urged the people of Talensi and the rest of the country, to this time around, say no to them when tomorrow’s by-elections are held.

“The NPP and NDC believe in wealth distribution and they think that is the best way to convince Ghanaians. Of course, it is the best way because when you starve them too long, the best option is to come and give them goodies. Why don’t you empower them? You cannot be giving the people fish everyday – you have to teach them how to catch the fish,” Mr. Ayariga said in an interview with Fiifi Banson on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.3 FM Monday.

He said it was about time electorates vote for a candidate who has been with them through thick and thin and served them better rather than those who make promises and never fulfill them, something he said is very characteristic of the NPP and NDC.

“The time has come for Ghanaians to start looking for competent and dedicated leaders rather than big political parties and their members. Big parties and their members will not solve their problems. For so many years, we have heard that and nothing has changed in Ghana.”

He told Banson that it would always be prudent for the people to thoroughly assess candidates who would want to lead them in terms of credibility and commitment to improving their standards of living, noting that is the best way to go.
