Government has starved the Western Regional office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) of the needed financial resources compelling the staff to fund activities of the Commission with their own monies.

Subvention to the state agency has not been paid for several months, a situation which brought the about 110 workers under huge pressure as their financial strength keeps weakening by each passing day.

The Western Regional Director of NCCE, Aponso Arthur who sounded frustrated over the development in an interview with Joy News stated that in spite of the financial challenge the staff are discharging their duties effectively and with dedication.

“My staff are using the same salaries to run the office, I for one have even used my salary to buy tyres for my vehicle. Last year, it was happening the same way and as I speak now the district officers go to the faith-based organizations and other identifiable groups and communities, they bring report and we actually do some feedback on that and we realize they are on the field working. But how did they get money, like i’m saying they actually do that with the same salary that is being paid them.”

He added: “I mean government has been giving us money to run the office, at certain point the government has stop and we’re finding it very tough running the office…it’s not easy. We send budget, our big men at the Head office will tell us that it is still not approved so we should wait. So we are waiting as we use our salaries to run the office”
