The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has put up a sterling performance to win the Ekumfi parliamentary seat from the governing National Democracy Congress (NDC).
Represented by Ato Cudjoe, the elephant family, according to the provisional results, polled a surprise 12, 217 votes as against 11,630 votes amassed by the incumbent NDC MP, Abeiku Crentsil.
That means Ato Cudjoe won the seat with a 587 votes difference.
Abeiku Crentsil won the seat in 2012 after scaling through the parliamentary primary of the NDC where he beat the then incumbent MP, Kuntu Blankson.
In the general parliamentary poll, Mr. Crentsil garnered 16,615 votes, representing 62% of the total valid votes cast while Ato Cudjoe who also represented the NPP polled 9,395 votes, representing 35% of the total valid votes cast.
Crentsil’s defeat, according political analysts, is largely attributed to infighting that rocked the rank and file of the umbrella family in the constituency.
There were mass defection of some supporters and sympathizers of the party to the opposition NPP but the regional executives, Kasapafmonline.com understands, sat aloof without making any move to resolve the internal crisis.
