President John Dramani Mahama will on Thursday, December 22, 2016, mount the podium in the chamber of Ghana’s Parliament to deliver the State of the Nation Address before the dissolution of the August House on the midnight of January 6, 2017.
This is in accordance with Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana which states that “The President shall, at the beginning of each session of Parliament and before a dissolution of Parliament, deliver to Parliament a message on the State of the nation.”
The address which happens to be the last in his four-year tenure of office is expected to touch on the progress the Ghanaian economy has made in terms of stability over the past year.
He is also expected to tell Ghanaians about the overall growth of the country – thus the fiscal discipline, especially, in an election year as well as issues relating to power and the performance of the various sectors of the economy over the past year.
He is also expected to brief the Ghanaians about the general security situation of the nation.
The event is expected to be attended by members of the diplomatic corps, nananom, ministers of state and some other dignitaries who have interest in the nation.
