Deputy Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Anthony Karbo has maintained that the NPP is sure to retain the Tema West seat in 2016, should the incumbent MP Naa Torshie Addo win the parliamentary primary this weekend.

Pollster Ben Ephson in an interview on Kasapa102.3 FM had earlier predicted that the NPP will lose the seat, in the event Naa Torshie Addo wins the party’s primary.

He had insisted that the decision by party heavy weights such as Dan Botwe, Atta Akyea, as well as a former General Secretary of the party, Mr Kwadwo Owusu-Afriyie, aka Sir John among others to openly campaign for her, sowed seeds of deep rooted division and apathy in the party which could cost NPP the seat in 2016 elections.

The NPP is set to hold its primary Saturday 25 July in a contest that promises to be keenly contested among the incumbent MP and Mr Carlos Kingsley Ahenkorah.

Mr Ephson noted that supporters of Mr Ahenkorah who feel sidelined by the actions of these high raking party members, are likely not to vote for Naa Torshie come 2016 election should their candidate lose the primary during this weekend, this he said will affect the electoral fortunes of the NPP.

However Speaking to Kweku Owusu Agyei on Kasapa 102.3 FM’s Si Mi So show, Anthony Karbo strongly disagreed with Mr Ephson’s assertion.

He contended that the Tema West seat has always been a safe one for the NPP and that it will take a miracle for the NDC to snatch it.

“Even when Ofosu Ampofo the then candidate of the ruling NDC party, flooded the constituency with goodies to influence the electorates to vote for him, he failed, Nana Torshie still won with about 1,000 votes”.

“Ofosu Ampfo’s campaign was almost like a Presidential one, he did a lot of activities that time. He ensured several projects in the area, the provision of streetlights and construction of roads and all that ….but still NPP won, all the three Tema seats will continue to remain a safe seat for the NPP” Karbo added.

“ I don’t think Naa Torshie will fold her arms and not campaign for Carlos Ahenkora in 2016 if she should lose the primary this Saturday, our main object is to see the NPP in power and all efforts will be geared towards that”.
