Former General Secretary of the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, popularly known as Sir John, has said he cannot force President Akufo-Addo into giving him an appointment in his government.

There were widespread speculations that Mr Owusu Afriyie had been tipped for appointment as Director-General of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) last month.

But the latest circular from the Presidency last week named Mr Paul Ansah as acting Director-General of GPHA, a development which provoked the ire of most grassroot supporters who are rooting for Sir John to be given an appointment in the Akufo-Addo led government.

Speaking to Apple68FM, Virginia, USA, Sir John, said rumours that his followers are planning to demonstrate against the president for apparently sidelining him, was not necessary,” adding “I know him [Nana Akufo-Addo], he doesn’t want to be pushed.”

Asked whether he being sidelined by the Akufo-Addo-led administration on the GPHA job as speculated was engineered by his detractors, Sir John said  “I will not be able to tell”.

He said he’s not looking forward for Mr. Akufo-Addo to field him in any public service under his government, calling for calm among his fans who are outraged by his alleged snub.
