The Flagbearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) Nana Akufo Addo has accused government officials in the Mahama-led administration of orchestrating violence in the Asunafo and Asutifi Districts in the Brong Ahafo Region.

According to him, because of the political influence of these high-ranking government officials, perpetrators of such crimes are always left of the hook.

The Asunafo and Asutifi Districts have recorded violent incidents during elections in previous years. During the recent limited voters registration exercise ahead of the December 7 election, supporters of the NDC and NPP clashed which resulted in several people sustaining varied degrees of injuries and destruction to property.

Nana Akufo Addo’s comment comes in the wake of the brazen statement by Abdulai Naaba, brother of Hon. Collins Dauda, Minister of Water Resources Works and Housing who has revealed that he and some unnamed persons kill people every day, and will not hesitate to murder any supporter of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) who tries to attack members of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) during the December 7 elections.

He has vowed to deal ruthlessly with Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyepong who has threatened to unleash the NPP’s invisible forces on him on election day at Asutifi South in the Brong Ahafo Region, saying he (Naaba) is more experienced in killing people hence he will not sit down for anybody to threaten him.

Speaking to Kwabena Prah Junior on Agyenkwa FM’s, Naaba Abdulai said: “I Naaba, I’m a fearless person, NPP are now trying to learn how to shoot guns, but some of us have handled guns for more than 20 years now. How can you compare yourself to me. Kennedy Agyepong is just bragging, if he dare steps here on election day, he’ll be arrested and beaten mercilessly. If he comes here and threaten to kill anyone, I swear we’ll finish him first. He should go and teach people how to shoot in his constituency…as for us, we kill people every day. If they are ready, we are ready too. My life is dear to me, I’ll not allow anyone to threaten me.”

Adressing chiefs and people of Sankore, Nana Akufo Addo stressed that under his leadership as President of Ghana, the law will bite at anyone who commits a crime irrespective of the culprits political affiliation.

“Thanks for your advice, we abore violence. We’re going exercise our votes in the upcoming election and not going to engage in a fight. I also put my concerns before you today…, government officials here in Ahafo contribute to the violenece that is recored during elections. That is the plain truth which must be told, we all have Ghana at heart. Beacuse these government officials are plot such violence, no culprit is arrested, the police are unable to act and have them arrested. We can’t build the country this way.”

He added “as for me…when God willing I assume power, laws will work in Ghana irrespective of whom is involved, whether you’re NDC or NPP supporter the law will deal with you. That is how there will be peace in the country, which will allow every law abiding citizen to do his/her work in peace. I’m pleading with you, please advice these government officials who are behind the violence to desist from that bad behaviour. This culture paints a bad picture of the area and does not bring any honour to the good people living here.”
